An allergy usually develops within the first three years and most of the time it is accompanied by severe itching. There are mainly two types of allergies in Switzerland: food allergies and environmental allergies. Three quarters of animals suffer from environmental allergies. Common causes are molds, dust mites as well as grass or tree pollen. Breeds like the West Highland White Terrier, the Boxer, the French Bulldog, the Bullterrier, the Vizsla, the Basset Hound, the Retrievers und the Dalmatian frequently suffer from environmental allergies. In Switzerland, a lot of West Highland White Terriers, Boxers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Retrievers, Pugs and German Shepherds come down with food allergies (some of them also show allergic reactions to mites contained in dry dog food).

Carrots: a natural substitute for antibiotics
Scientists from Germany and Vienna found out why certain ingredients contained in carrots, apples, blueberries and cranberries are able to stop diarrhea after a short amount of time and why these ingredients are superior to many antibiotics and therefore can replace them very often.
It’s a familiar scene: most vets recommend regular or even preventive de-worming.
De-Worming But the sad fact is that there is no preventive effect when you de-worm your dog. So what does this mean? Well, if your dog is free of worms and you administer de-worming treatment there is no effect whatsoever. Because a de-worming treatment is not preventive at all it might happen that your dog gets worms a few days after the treatment. There was no point in de-worming your dog. What’s the logical conclusion? It’s reasonable to de-worm when your dog actually has worms – and only then! I recommend the following preventive treatment: - add organic coconut oil or coconut flakes to your feeding for a short period (coconut is known to be one of the oldest treatments against intestinal parasites) - feed grated carrots and pumpkin seed 1-2x a week - feed animal parts that still have some fur on them (like ears for example) – those help to clean your pet’s intestines of worms Additionally I also recommend: Never de-worm if there are no findings for worms in your pet’s faecal examination. Why? De-worming treatments are made of neurotoxic substances which shall paralyze the worms so that they can be defecated easily. But not only the worms will absorb those toxins – your dog will also absorb them… source: barfmich.de

Supplements - Vitamins etc.
An article about health risks caused by supplements. Dog owners often add powders or tablets to their dog’s food so that the dog „gets everything that’s needed“. If you feed your dog a raw diet, the risk of giving too many supplements will be higher than the risk of a providing not enough vitamins.
